A caffeinated boost to make ordinary gardens extraordinary

One of the more brilliant things done by Starbucks, and not known by many people, is the "Grounds For Your Garden" program. In virtually every company owned Starbucks across the US Starbucks saves the used grounds for gardeners. Rose afficianados know well how spreading coffee grounds as a top dressing on the flower beds produce the most brilliant blooms, but virtually every other plant in the garden benefits as well. The grounds are always bagged up - reusing those bags in which the whole beans are shipped to the stores - so getting them home is easy.

Besides using the grounds as a top dressing for blooming plants, grounds have also been scattered around the base of foundation plants. On occassion, when there is a bit too much carbon based items in the compost (primarily all those dried leaves in Autumn) an addition of nitogen rich coffee grounds sets the compost back into balance. Aside from the benefit to my garden, the program also keeps millions of pounds of waste out of landfills.

Sometimes its little things like this that can make ordinary days, and ordinary gardens, into extraordinary ones!

RE-duce RE-use RE-cycle @ TuesdaysAndThursdays

We're committed to reducing our environmental footprint every chance we get.

Many of our customers are surprised to discover thatdespite our boasting about our eco-friendly habits, on some occassions an order will contain packing peanuts. Rest assured that we never buy styrofoam peanuts - we reuse the ones that we receive in the office as well as the peanuts our staff collect from orders they receive at home. (That's why you may receive a combination of white, pink, and green peanuts in your order)

We encourage our customers to save the peanuts for future shipping needs, or drop them off at your local UPS store (call ahead first) but most are willing to reuse your styrofoam peanuts.

Recycling Packaging

One of our biggest challenges in shipping securely while reducing our environemental impact is packing material. We reuse all the packing material from inbound shipments (that's why you'll find a rainbow of colours of packing peanuts if your order is packed with them) but sometimes we have to purchase packing material.

We just found a source of 100% recycled, with at least 60% post-consumer content, newsprint. At those times when we don't have packing material to reuse, you can rest assured that we have done our part.

We encourage our customers who receive newsprint packaging to put it with your mixed paper or newspaper recycling to continue to create the loop.
