Leonardo The Terrible Monster

Leonardo the Terrible Monster Soft Toy & Book Leonardo Soft Toy and Hardcover Book make great reading companians - and a great gift too!

Our Leonardo has a soft chenille, bean-filled body and a fabric pocket to make this monster a puppet. Try him out and you'll see that his floppy body is fun to move. Leonardo is 14" Tall.

Mo Willem's Hardcover Book is a true gem! Leonardo is a terrible monster–terrible as in he can't scare anybody. He's not big, doesn't have hundreds of teeth, and isn't even weird. So one day he comes up with an idea: He would find the most scaredy-cat kid in the whole world…and scare the tuna salad out of him! After much research, he chooses Sam, sneaks up on him, and [gives] it all he [has]. When the boy cries, Leonardo is convinced that he is a success. But Sam proceeds to recite a litany of wrongs that actually brought on his tears: My mean big brother stole my action figure right out of my hands…, and on and on. Leonardo makes a decision that is sure to surprise and delight readers.

At Tuesdays and Thursdays, we love how the author is listed on the cover of the book as "Your Pal, Mo Willems" - simply brilliant! and a great way for children to become friends with the world of reading!

OX is great at magic, and his best trick is turning your stuff into his stuff! His best buddy Wedgehead calls that stealing, but OX just wants to borrow things from you for a few hundred years. (He promises to put everything back when he's done).

What he wants to steal most are kisses, whether they're in the chocolate variety or just plain, and he promises to be your friend if you would lend him a hand, or an ear...or like Two Dollars!

Magnetic Poetry - It All Started With A Sneeze

It all started with a song and a sneeze. Dave Kapell, founder of Magnetic Poetry, was suffering from writer's block while trying to compose song lyrics. To overcome this problem, he wrote down interesting words on pieces of paper and rearranged them, looking for inspiration. What he hadn't figured into this experiment was his allergies. One good sneeze and any progress was sent flying across the room. Dave decided to glue the words to pieces of magnets and stick them to a pizza tin. Then he got hungry and the now magnetized words made their way to the refrigerator door. Before too long, Dave wasn't the only one rearranging his would-be song lyrics. When friends came over, Dave noticed they started to move the magnets around, amusing themselves by writing the first magnetic poems.

After seeing his friends having fun, Dave thought he might be able to sell his word kits at a local craft fair. He made up 100 kits and set up shop at Calhoun Square, a mall in the Uptown area of Minneapolis. All 100 kits were gone after 3 hours. That night, he recruited as many friends as pizza and beer could draw and made up more kits--all of which sold as rapidly the next day.

From these beginnings, Magnetic Poetry® has now sold over three million word kits, over one billion word tiles--growing from the Original Kit to a kid's line of kits, to foreign language kits, to Voice/theme kits.

And since March 2008 Magnetic Poetry has been a part of Tuesdays and Thursdays - Making Ordinary Days (and refrigerators) Extraordinary

Bunnies - they're everywhere

One of our latest additions is Folkmanis hand puppets - we're just amazed at the quality of these wonderful creations. They're actually more like realistic plush animals with a hidden opening that allows for movement.

The Angora Rabbit's head and front paws move - we've played with him a few times holding him in our arms as if he where a real rabbit. (yes, we've fooled a few people). The Angora Rabbit is 14" long and 7" tall and very cuddly.

THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR HAND PUPPET

The World Of Eric Carle THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR HAND PUPPET

11" Plush

The hero from Eric Carle's classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar can now join your hungry little one for great play!

(Thankfully the mouth on the handpuppet does not open as that could result in some really icky hungry experiments!) However, should the caterpillar become hungry, he is machine washable, cold water, gentle cycle, and can be tumble dryed on low. How brilliant is that!

Fingers reach into the caterpillars head and his top two "arms".

Everyone Wants To Be Ugly

From the creative minds of two love struck artists David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim emerge the Uglydoll family! What started as a drawing of a playful orange character known as Wage has turned into a whole new world of fun! In 2001, when David's soon to be wife and creative partner Sun-Min had to return to Korea, he sent her many "I miss you" letters with his little Wage character drawn at the bottom.

Sun-Min sewed Wage into a push doll and sent him to David as a surprise gift. David asked Sun-Min to sew a couple more for the Giant Robot store in Los Angeles and they sold out in one day! A very excited Sun-Min sewed many more and those sold just as fast! Sun-Min and David then began to pull more characters from the Uglyverse, a universe where UGLY meant unique and special, to translate into plush Uglydolls. They both met again at their very first Uglydoll Toy Fair booth (a small 6x6 booth made of felt and wood) in New York, where they would go on to win Toy Of The Year 4 years later!

Carrot Mythology

Carrots are a great source of Vitamin A. Vitamin A deficencies can result in poor eyesight and other occular conditions. However eating more carrots and taking Vitamin A supplements does not improve vision.

The rumor about carrots improving eyesight was started as a part of disinformation campaign during World War II. The Royal Air Force was using an early form of radar and did not want the Nazis to know anything about this new technology. So to explain why British pilots had such an impressive records of hitting their targets, the Home Office explained that the pilots were eating large amounts of carrots.

We find seemingly ordinary stories like this to be extraordinary - from time to time we'll share more stories on the Tuesdays And Thursdays blog roll.
