Degas Dancers At Rest Museum Puzzle

Edgar Degas is most famous for his portrayals of ballet dancers. While Impressionists worked outdoors to explore the changing effects of natural light, Edgar Degas was fascinated by artificial light. He was also a perfectionist, who asked the dancers to pose for long periods while he refined his drawings. Said Degas, "No art was ever less spontaneous than mine."
While away your waiting time backstage by assembling this 500-piece Dancers at Rest puzzle. The original pastel drawing is in the Musee d'Orsay, Paris.
Puzzle measures 16" square
4-1/2" stackable cube package
Informational insert with artist information

Bananagrams - Now Available At Tuesdays And Thursdays

Place all 144 tiles face down on center of table. These tiles are referred to as the "BUNCH". For games of 2-4 people, each player takes 21 letters from the bunch, keeping them face down. For 5-6 players, 15 letters are taken. For 7-8 (or more) players, 11 letters are taken.
Any one player says "SPLIT" whereupon all players turn their own tiles face up and proceed to form their OWN collection of connecting and intersecting words. The words may be horizontal or vertical, reading left to right or top to bottom. Each player may rearrange his/her own words as often as desired. Players DO NOT take turns, but play independently of each other and at the same time.

After playing at the New York Toy Fair (and missing an appointment with another supplier because we were having so much fun) we just knew that we had to offer Bananagrams for our customers! You'll go bananas for Bananagrams !
Bananagrams is now available at Tuesdays and Thursdays - Making Ordinary Days Extraordinary
Words We Love : Staycation

Staycation : A vacation that is spent at one's home enjoying all that home and one's home environs have to offer; A vacation spent close to home.
Remember Dirty Dancing? Back in the day the Catskills, and much of the Hudson River Valley was the place to spend a summer. Many of those grand hotels still exist, just not as grand as they were back when Jennifer Grey did a little dirty dancing. Given the changes in our economy related to petrol prices it will be interesting to see if New Yorkers rediscover this gem as the desire to find places close to home becomes de rigeur and the staycation enters the cultural lexicon.
Favourite words like Staycation have made some of our ordinary days extraordinary - from time to time we'll share some more of them with you and we stumble upon them!

... reflecting on Bobby Kennedy
- - - - - - -
Children know this. Children live this. So why do we as adults forget this important lesson?
Daring to fail greatly starts in infancy: pushing our bodies to roll over, to see our world from a different vantage point that WE decide. Of course later on there is walking. Boom! Fall down. Get up and do it again, know that a fall could happen again. Babies, and even the adults around them do not see the falls as failures, they all seem to know that it is a part of the process of learning to walk. So why is it that we as adults are so afraid of the stumble in our lives?

Are we afraid of failure, or is our fear more deeply rooted in the words and reactions of others who may see us on that journey? Does the reaction of others, or our perception of the reaction of others really matter? In that vein does failure even matter, perhaps failure is a perception as well. Thomas Edison referred to all the attempts at creating a lightbulb '1000 way of how not to make a light bulb.' Of coure there are all those lab workers who crash cars into walls, looking for failure points, all in the name of learning how to make a safer automobile.
Perhaps the biggest misnomer of failure is its absoluteness. The Kennedy family has had more than its share of triumph and tragedy, but every member of the family picked themselves up, often multiple times in their lives, and worked to complete the tasks at hand. Failure doesn't have to be final, it can be a speedbump on our journey, a chance to slow down and really examine all that is around us, then continue on the journey, toward success.

Jeero at the Soup Kitchen

Jeero spent most of today at the Marys and Marthas Soup Kitchen at Christ Church in Belleville NJ.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, one in ten households in the United States experiences hunger or the risk of hunger. Many frequently skip meals or eat too little, sometimes going without food for an entire day. Approximately 25 million people, including 9.9 million children, have substandard diets or must resort to seeking emergency food because they cannot always afford the food they need. In the past year, the demand for hunger assistance has increased by 40%, and research shows that hundreds of hungry children and adults are turned away from food banks each year because of lack of resources.
Tuesdays And Thursdays supports local food programs with donations by our staff as well as allowing staff to volunteer at local soup kitchens during business hours. Sadly for many Americans a meal is what makes an ordinary day extraordinary - we encourage our customers to suport food programs in their area as much as possible.

What's Better Than A Cardboard Box Fort ?

Made in Texas by "Lucy & Michael," these playtents are unlike any we've seen on the market. (Most play tents are plastic, and have such annoyingly bright colours that we are sure they can be spotted by aircraft overhead). Most important, "lucy & michael" is a company created by Moms who wanted playtents that would last not only for child, but could be used by their younger brothers and sisters in years to come.
Made simply of whimsically combined beautiful fabrics and trims and solid pine supports, lucy & michael play tents fit the bill. Reinforced with years of design and redesign, the tent pattern grew from daily research performed by the most important and uncompromising investigators - the children who play in them.
Lucy & Michael playtents come in a wide range of colour patterns. Play tents are 5 feet square and stand 5 feet tall when open; when closed they stand 6 feet tall.
